it has to do with the percentage of climbers climbing at a certain level. only x% climb 8a, then that is where hard climbing starts. They explained it years and years ago when they started the site. I think it was 2% . Sort of makes sense. That way the scale slides as the sport matures. Sort of like gills b system for bouldering but better.

i want to get back to KY for sure, when it cools off. and I think it has been long enough since I did any off-width routes that I might consider doing one again!!
