Solar Fund
I'm very happy for your pup. Now that you have been through this, would you react any differently if it were to happen again? I would be so worried for my dog that I would run to the vet also, or do you now have a sense of what threat a particular bite can have? I have friends who have had the snake bite thing with their pets and have treated it like "Oh well". (they don't love dogs as much as I do). Any insight from the vets?Wes wrote:Just got back from the vet, and Solar gets a clean bill of heath.
Wes
Or any word from them on what the best course of immediate treatment?
gulliver, If it was a copperhead, I might not take them to the vet, but still probably would. Rattlesnake still would for sure. My understanding talking with the vets, is that the secondary effects of the venom are what usually cause the real problems. Snakes can have a ton of funky bacteria, so antibiotics are important, as is dealing with the swelling. So, the venom might not permanetly harm a dog, but the side effects might.
DMW, not sure about that snake, but there are plenty of other snakes out there, even if we never see them. Hopefully, Solar will know enough to stay away next time, though I think he just more or less stumbled into this one. Thanks much for carring my pack down!

Hey Wes,
I still don't know who you are but I'm pleased to see climers pull together to support a friend. I hope you didn't have to forfiet and gear. God bless Solar, his work must not be complete, or maybe he just wanted to play at the crag some more
