I'm more inspired by women who are mothers and are out there crankin' (Diane, that chick who climbs at the Lode, Nicole from Bton, for example). Age is what you make it.

Claire Bell won the HP40 comp, and she had a baby last year, I think. Diggum, Dipsi, Tamra, Heather, Jana, Sandy and others that I can't think of, also are strong, cool moms who climb hard.

I *think* Charmagne is down in Louisiana. She recently posted a pic of one of her kids (I'm assuming..) on a climbing wall and another of her on the Legend.

Jesus only knows that she tries too hard. She's only trying to keep the sky from falling.

I discovered the joy of sport climbing when Galyans opened in Louisville. I turned 40 shortly thereafter and found Rocksport, where I had previously only taken my kids to birthday parties. I had spent my 30's establishing a family, home and career (in order of importance) and needed an outlet/hobby. I started climbing once a week, then twice, then three times - all in the gym for the first year and a half. Started going outside into the second year and loved it, climbing 9s and 10s. Broke my foot in the gym later that year and had to take off 5 months. Back at it strong in the gym and this year I've made an effort to get outside as much as time allows.

Long story short - I'm 44 now and this year I'm sending 11s and even sent my first 12 this fall (albeit a soft 12, Ro Shampo). That's something I never thought I'd do, ever. And it looks like the body is going to let me keep climbing hard for a while longer, maybe long enough to get a hard 12 next year.

Don't whine, just climb. Your never to old.

An older power lifter told me the secret is to never slow down in your later years. If you take it easy for too long in your older years it's very hard to bounce back. That same power lifter is still deadlifting several hundred pounds and squating 400 something and he's in his freakin 80s. They body is very capable of building muscle mass until 85 or so.

True that!

And thank you, Wes, for including me in that awesome list!
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.
