There's a trick to jugging that makes it go really fast and easy for the Nose. The first few times I jugged, I vowed never to take up aid climbing. Now I have it dialed and do 100ft in less than two minutes. Use one aider per ascender, with the upper ascender clipped to the length of your reach, and the other one clipped so that when you stand in the upper aider, the lower ascender goes just up to the upper ascender then come tight on the daisy. Then select the proper rungs for each foot so that you can raise your feet as though you are walking up stairs (lowest rung on top aider, 2nd or 3rd step in lower aider I think). Then off you go like a Versaclimber machine. On less than overhanging rock to dead vertical this is really fast and surprisingly takes little energy. For a free hanging line I use a different technique but it's pretty quick as well.Paul3eb wrote:apparently the way it worked out was he climbed then rested while beth jugged up each pitch. to me, that's damn impressive that she jugged that much in twelve hours.. that's A LOT of jugging. that has to be some record in itself. i bet her shoulders and upper arms are incredible.
The Nose goes free yet again
Climbing the Nose that fast is beyond sick! They have real issues.
Paul3eb, the record for jugging el cap is like around 45 min. every so often a bunch of cavers go to el cap just to jug it. they hang a rope down from summit to base and just jug all day long. sounds stupid to me, but whatever. also the nose is pretty slabby till the top and jugging on slab it easy.
I don't have haters, I have fans in denial.
I've got a friend who does caves. Long-honking vertical drops. He's got it rigged so he can jug out without using his arms if he doesn't want to. Cool.Paul3eb wrote:apparently the way it worked out was he climbed then rested while beth jugged up each pitch. to me, that's damn impressive that she jugged that much in twelve hours.. that's A LOT of jugging. that has to be some record in itself. i bet her shoulders and upper arms are incredible.
