I just don't believe that any individual is as isolated from the world around them as you seem to believe.[quote]

O.K. so tell me what you have done that has affected the larger world? What person have you argued against and have effected their actual opinion? You may have berreted them into being quiet, but I doubt that rhetorical stances and posturing has changed anyones actual opinion. You see I have come to the conclusion that people side with one side or the other for their own personal reasons. Which consequentialy may not be the aparent reason. I'll give you a quick example.

He had a girlfriend in college who had an abortion. He didn't want her to do it. She did it anyway. Not because she wanted to but because she realized that he wouldn't make a good father at this time in his life. She didn't trust him enough to invest a signifigant portion of her life with him by having his child. Basically, She aborted because she didn't trust him.
He, blames her for not having his child. Excusing his untrustworthy behavior and resting the blame on the systems shoulders. Not taking any responsibility for any of her decision to abort. Lets fast-forward ten years to his failed life. He continued his untrustworthy behavior to the extent that he couldn't keep a job. He was unreliable. But instead of realizing that he was to blame for his wrecked life because of a personality flaw that could be corrected with a little introspection(guided or not). He blames the system for allowing the x to abort and fantasizes about his life with her that could have been if she had bore his child. So he blames the society that let the abortion happen. Fifteen years go by. He's still unsucessful, still full of anger. Blaming it all on a life that "could Have been" but wasn't. He goes out and buys parts to make a IED. Blows up a clinic in Georgia. Killing three, but justifing their deaths in his twisted mind.

You see our guy has his own agenda and reasons for doing what he did. He needed his position to keep from looking inward at the problems in his life and not placing them squarely at his own feet.

So did this help clarify why I hate politcal arguements (at least now I do)

I would also like to apologize for anything I may have said in the past that may have offended. I have an opinion. Unless provoked I'll keep it to my self.

Ultra wrote:meetVA, Look. This is the conclusion that I've come to. I'm neither. I'm not a conservative or a liberal. None of the (edited) that they talk about effects me. In fact if I could just get rid of everthing I own and go live in my van I would (Stacy wants me to, like pay bills and stuff first...whatever). If the economy went tits-up tomorrow, I would still be doing the same thing. Eating and climbing. In fact that's all I want to do. If it came down to it I would prefer climbing over eating. So all of these "policy debates" and rhetoric on either side actually has zero effect on my life. For me to discuss politics doesn't effect policies. It just pisses the person off who's standing in front of me.
This has to be the most idiotic shortsighted post I've ever read... and I've spent a good deal of time on boldering.com

Maybe I should clarify.... I vote. Thats the ultimate expression of opinion. Posing arguements to people who are my friends does no good. pissing my friends off just to say my piece, accomplishes nothing. U.S. policy in (insert cause here) doesn't have an effect on my life. Argueing with my friends does.

Dumbasses, if they had of used the IUD 15 years ago she wouldn't have had to get the abortion.

Now that was pretty funny.

Here in good ol' KY, the boy Gov. is in trouble as well, might need to call in Halburnton or Carl Rove to help him as well.
