So dead tree trunk is better than a live tree with a root system?

cut the tree down. they have already cut half of it down, you might as well finish it off.

Ultra, That may be the most intelligent post you have made.
Jeff, maybe, maybe not. But, the what is left of the tree is causing a problem with the route. So, it needs to go. Using the trunk for erosion control is just an good way to use it, rather then pitching it off the side of the cliff.

But it makes such a cool place to stand and take pictures!
Oh yeah, then there's that shade thing.
Haven't been up there in a long while though didn't realize it was interfering with routes.
J-Rock, that must have been a heck of a hit she took.

i was there also - she hit hard - real hard
i say take the tree down
the stump will be there for a long long time - if your worried about erosion
it is already topped - one more cut at the base and be done with it
its up to the owner of the cliff is it not

And then people will stub their toes on the stump and continue the bitch fest. I say people should learn how to fall correctly or grip tighter.

i think the tree doesnt pose that big of a threat unless u kick off the wall. learning to fall is another discipline in rock climbing. but the tree is already cut in half so i suppose the rest of it isnt going to kill it anymore. leave like 3 feet of stump for a belay seat thats what i would do.

The reason it has been cut once was because someone broke their tail bone on the damn thing.

I hit that tree pretty good about 1992. It riped my back up pretty good, plus chalk bag. That was before it was cut.
I broke a hold on the climb a few years back and barely missed being riped up again. So......In my opinion it is very dangerous.
