Hey how come this is hijacked... I thought it was fairly legitimate - or is any thread that mentions HO just automatically hijacked?

I've used a double bowline with a backup ever since I first went ice climbing. A figure 8 is hard to untie with gloves on and the knot gets frozen.

stop whining and enjoy the fun.

i don't know how much one "certified" knot matters over another.
i do know though that a safety knot at the end is always a good idea.

now, when i tie up hofo i use a figure 8 girth hithed to a yosemite finished with a square knot and an ugly fisherman.

which if you think about it is hard to do with del constantly thumping hofo's leg so hard he is shaking more than a mixed drink in the movie cocktails.

I use what has been refered to as a "Triple Double". Its a double bowline with a double loop around the harness and then a double fishermans non-yosimite finish.

Did you know that sailors call the "fishermans knot" a "blood knot", I've only ever heard it called a "fishermans" by climbers.
