Hey Spuzo- you're a great mom and once that lump is gone (and it will be) the puppy will understand it all. Happy thoughts to you, Joe and the puppy.

I know how it feels to wonder if they will be ok. (And I'll take this opportunity to give another reminder to all to keep ibuprofen away from dogs!!!!) Glad your doggie is ok :D

Thanks guys. He's home now and a little wobbly from the drugs, but ok. Nasty Frankenpuppy looking thing though - 7 staples and a drain tube. Bleh. ten days with the staples and the drain comes out on Monday. First thing he did when he got home was bring us his ball! The vet showed us the Foxtail...these things cause so much damage and can actually kill a dog, they are the things that get annoyingly stuck all over your socks and stuff out here in the desert. The vet saved it - I know exactly when he snarfed it up his nose too...he came out of the bushed snorting and shaking his head and didn't stop for five minutes...I thought he had been bit by something.

Well - all is well now. Thanks again!

Holy shit! My Mom's dog experienced a similar thing about three months ago. Her dog started bleeding through her nose and thankfully my Mom rushed her to the vet. Supposedly those things burrow until they reach bone or whatever and tear apart everything in their path. My Mom's dog's seed was wedged in her throat and they had to do immediate surgery to remove it. Foxtail...that's one fucked up seed!

I'm so glad your woofer is okay...
Extra bones for him!
Does he have a strange bear claw like appendage protruding from his neck? He kep petting it.

Yeah it's amazing what those weeds can do. They were especially bad this year because it was a really wet winter. Most all the cheat grass, which is where the foxtails come from, burned down a couple weeks ago...but I am definitely going to be more aware of where Spike goes sniffing around when we're out hiking.

I don't know what I would have done if he had started bleeding from his nose, that's crazy....
