I consider anything going in the new guide to be "the Red". It's much easier when you are talking to people that have never been there generalizing about it. Once they get an idea of the location, then you can get more specific. But that's just me.

Dang. All this time I thought "The Red" was a guy named Eric that may or may not have found North America first.

I have to agree with JB, one of my long time rants is that anything commonly known as the Southern Region is actually in the KY River Watershed. THis now includes Muir Valley as well. Torrent, Roadside, Lady Slipper, etc. is still in the Red River Watershed, its actually the Middle Fork of the Red River.

I agree. An entire thread on the definition of 'proper' seems a little desperate. When I go go to kentucky to climb, i define it as just that

This is actually a thread?! For being rrg buffs youre pretty oblivious. The "red river gorge" is a state park in kentucky, with defined boundries. The southern region is not within those boudries. Nor is muir valley. So, simply put, theyre not in the red river gorge "proper"

Interesting. When did the Gorge become a State Park? KY SP's don't allow climbing. Actually, it's a Geologic Area, and it's federal.
