How longs does it take to get to the Red from Ashland? Also, is there really climbing around the Ashland area???

Dude, the best climbing is in Morehead. There is some stuff around Carter Caves, but you need permission to climb there. There are no crags in Ashland/Boyd County, but across the river there is Lake Vesuvius. It's not great, but better than nothing. It's only an hour to Morehead from Ashland, and those of us who go usually carpool. It's about two hours to the Red from Ashland, and about two hours to the New as well.

Two hours to the Red isn't too bad.... I wasn't aware there was much climbing in Morehead...at least quality climbing...

You have to join a cult to climb in Morehead. I am still trying to get out but they bang on my door in the early morning and drag me off. Then they quiz me about mundane topics such as motorcycle maintenance as we travel to the sacred grounds. On the drive back my sponsor forces me to perform maintenance on his moving cragmobile.

Mundane?...MUNDANE!?!? The delicate balance of air/fuel mixture and increased performance is not mundane. Apparently, you haven't read any Pirsig lately. Cult is a strong word; I prefer pseudosciencereligion. Just because we asked you to self-castigate yourself while climbing a route is only meant to improve your footwork.

Ah, I see my sponsor has his finger on the this thread's pulse. He heard its uneven palpatations resulting from my discontent. Actually, I am a more flexible after the right of passage(procedure). I do wish the infection would go away. They told me the spork was sterile.
Ah, he is alluding to Robert Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. I suppose I am a member of the Church of Reason.

I would love to come climbing with you guys in Morehead. I hope you guys will let me known when you go climbing in Morehead. I would love to come along.

I am very new at this, only been climbing a few times in the Red. I am a big chicken too but I love the outdoors and each time I go climbing I enjoy it more and more.
