Somehow I have to wonder if Machiavelli had many friends. Besides, he was talking about how to systematically overthrow and occupy a foreign country, not interact with his peers.

Actually, he spoke quite a bit about how a ruler should interact with his/her peers. And the context of 'The Prince' was more about maintaining one's own country rather than overthrowing/occupying another country. In any case, it was just a little joke. I hope I can count on your vote in 2008!
