I have a VW diesel that we run on 2% biodiesel. It is the best we can find in Indiana and have to buy it at a farm co-op. ALL diesel engines can run on biodiesel. We checked with VW and it doesn't invalidate the warranty either. They only suggest not running 100% biodiesel in the winter because it gets too thick.
You can also buy a converter for like 800 bucks and run on recycled grease after filtering the grease or make your own at home like Artsay mentioned.
There are plans to build a biodiesel plant by Bloomington.

a farmer interviewed on NPR for a broadcast yesterday stated that the 2% biodiesel fuel was actually higher performance than the standard diesel, I find the corn based alternatives exciting too, the babe senator from South Dakota is hot, she gave a speech covered by C-Span the other day- Willie should bring her out at the next Farm Aid

A farmer in western KY has begun a small distribution network for his biodiesel; it's a cool thing.

don't you all get it!?! this is part of the vast right wing conspiracy! they're trying to flood the market with corn and soy so they can justify subsidizing the west's farming habits and can "reclaim" more land while saturating the air with the heavy smell of french fries so we get addicted to mcdonald's and arby's and wendy's and have to live off the insurance companies and buy services from arbitrary companies that provide arbitrary services and they can get rich and fat and we'll all be fat and poor.. don't you see?!! i feel like i'm taking crazy pills here

Paul, did you fail to take your pills again?
Didn't we have a really long thread about this already? Seems as if there were some good posts in that with some links and stuff.
You can run diesel engines on unaltered vegetable oil if you heat it first. This is somewhat more environmentally friendly than the process of breaking the oil down to remove the glycerides (I think that's right... it's basically soap that is separated out) but the soapy stuff can be used as... soap.
