I really really like bushwacking. And I like climbing trad. I can get out on Fridays. But I don't lead trad yet.
So if you want or need another person I'm available!

um, just a quick clarification for a gumby who is clueless..someone please tell me what the difference is between bushwhacking, and all the insistence to stay on designated trails...when is one acceptbale over the other? TIA
example: can I go to Muir and "bushwhack" if I think I might discover a new "virgin" wall?

When you discover that new virgin wall you will also have the required responsibility of creating and putting in trails before it is open and available to the public (time that could otherwise be spent climbing).

Um, you all can have that bushwhacking crap all to yourselves. When you find a wall as stacked as Roadside, Solar, Sky Bridge, etc, and have put in a trail, cleaned up the routes, and added real anchors, I will come out. Otherwise, my climbing time is for climbing, not hiking. Unless you find some 5 star, 5.11ish crack that doesn't need to much cleaning. I might be up for that. But not if there are nettles anywhere in the general area.

cool..thanks jrock...
next question...what if I don't expect the general public to go there, do i still have to build a trail?
and bushwhacking and not finding new rock is totally acceptable?..that'd be cool, casue I thought I wuz supposed to always stay on the already built trails.

I'm not sure about those last two questions. I would probably ask Rick or Tim about it since I don't really know the answers to them. Just send them a pm or ask them and they will probably have a reasonable answer. Or I can ask them if you are really curious about it. I do know that there are plans for hiking trails in Muir Valley that will go to beautiful natural areas with waterfalls, arches, rock houses, wildflowers, etc., but no climbing.
