Then... from Miguel's, make a left out of the parking, and drive until you reach the first and only gas station (about 11 miles of a drive).
Park there, ride your bike south some more (on the road with a huge bike path) for 3-4 more miles. That will be a nice warm up any way.
Head down towards the motherload and have fun.

the road going down to the southern region (mother load) can be alright enough for a civic, or it can be horrible and scary. it really depends and i don't personally know how it is right now. you might be able to catch a ride with someone down there. i might bring a bike for that week but im not sure yet, hopefully i'll find some other passengers to defray the costs instead. there is alot of great climbing in the southern region with a pretty wide range of climbs so being able to get down there makes for lots of good climbing and is likely to be less busy than more popular areas in the red.

Sucks pretty bad right now, I wouldn't attempt it in a civic.

The road down was not just pretty bad: it was horrible.
The RRGCC designated parking area was trashed, and the way back up the hill from there was nearly impassable - even with a good 4x4.
Being that the hike is so easy from the load... I would recommend the short-cut from the load to the top parking by foot: find out more by asking one of the RRGCC dudes / dudettes - for now, I'll just say that it's ALL flat and super easy after a tiny river crossing, and two others to follow.

Agreed. I was down there recently in my 4x4 & although it was a helluva good time, no WAY I'd try it again until things dry out. I'm talking 2-3 foot ruts of pure mud. But I came in via Fixer too.
Weeeee!!!
Park at the gas station & ride in fo sho.

bumber about the road to the load, i was hoping to go down to Driveby and maybe hit up the Sore heel area. Fixer road is in rough shape too? the whole thing? could i get to Solar collector? i doubt it will dry out for a few weeks. is parking at the top of the load hill still a bad idea? i know people got towed from there in the past.

All the way to sore heel is a hellified MESS. It needs at least a month of dry weather. Unless of course you have a Hummer or something...then go for it. I have an Xterra & we got there & back...but barely.
I'd think twice or if you have time to kill...walk in from atop motherlode hill.
