I bet less than 60% pay Miguel for his camping service. I disagree about the out of town/local comparison. Just a guess but I bet the locals skip out on paying more than the visiting climbers do.

With so much free FS camping in the area, why would climbers stick Miguel? Is it because of the mansion he lives in, and we don't think he needs it? I think from now on Miguel should have a way of knowing who has paid, and who has not. Screw the honor system. Time and again, climbers have shown they can not be trusted. I am guilty as well. If I know I can get away with it, I would skip out on a few payments. I haven't camped at Miguel's in over 3 years, but I used to justify away my obligation. I'd say I probably owe the man $20-30 in camping fees from around 7 years of taking free nights (esp. when I slept in my truckbed.)

BTW, didn't it used to be $3?

Miguel doesn't live in a mansion, and they have struggled--seriously struggled--for many more years than they have not. In fact, business has only been good for them the past few years. I hope it continues to boom, but that family works damn hard and anyone who is stiffing them for camping or who has in the past should go pay what they owe and add in some extra for interest.

out of towners????? do you live at the gorge? everyone is an out of towner jack-off. lots of people stiff, (knowingly/unknowingly) and they suck ass either way. worse is the people that stay elsewhere, (FS land isnt free either, guess your a stiffer there as well) and then use the facilities. he doesnt always know whos where, especially on weekends and it is all of our responsibilities to take care of the place(s) we love. SPEAK UP on injustice anywhere. if you know someone is trying to slide our doing something wrong dont leave it to one person to be the designated asshole, (like myself) grow a sack and stand up for the guy.

He should trade free camping and maybe a small stipend for a "super" to walk around in the morning and make sure everyone has paid. Kinda like a campground host sorta thing.

I can kind of recall one night that I got totally shit-faced and couldn't drive home which was only 20 mins away. I crashed with some friends and didn't pay for camping!

I think this was the same night that Miquel said that he was going to tell on me for getting so drunk and that I needed a spanking!

I promptly turned my ass toward him and said "Spank me, Miquel"

Am I really telling this story on myself?

My local/non local comment was meant more towards climbers that spend a whole season or extended periods of time at the campground, not climbers that have been around long enough to be considered locals. The "locals" usually drive home at night. Guess its all up to Miguel on how he wants to handle it, but it is a shame that some abuse the service. Its not just here its every climbing area.

um, anti climber. It is I who started this poll, not you. I am the one standing up for justice and equity for all mankind. Go start your own poll if you want to be Mandela. This is my virtuous turf. I get to call the stiffers out on the carpet. You need to be more careful about carpet bagging on my accolades. Why haven't you spoken up on here before if this issue was so near and dear to your heart?

davsa, the mansion bit was tongue in cheek. I am old enough to remember his struggling days. it woldn't matter if he did live in a mansion. we owe the man the money, pure and simple. and you are right, I am going to make amends next time I see Miguel.

We had one of those a few years back, her name is (I decided to leave her name out) . She was not given this job formally by Miquel but took it upon herself to police the whole fucking campground AND climbing community. Not just about camping fees but various belay techniques, wether someone should stick clip the first bolt, how certain people make shitty climbing partners, how much someone should drink, eat . . .

Kind of reminded me of an annoying gnat flying around
