I think the Ted is Ted Turner as in media/communications magnate?! I think he has a few hundred thousand head of bison at his conglomerate of ranches in Montana or someplace. Now a few hundred thousand head would be impressive, especially wearing tutu's and riding unicycles while balancing beach balls on there noses all while funneling beer? I think drunk bison alone would be pretty cool, I just hope they are happy drunks!!!
I look at the news with mixed emotion. I mean bison were native to KY so having them in the Gorge is cool. Having them in a little field isn't so cool. While it might be awesome to see bison in the wild at some exotic point in a national park out west, not everybody is able to have that expereince. Having the bison there at Gladie allowed people to see something they otherwise might not be able to see and added to the 'historic' and educational feel of what that whole mess in the middle of the Gorge is all about. I mean they sell freakin' bison trinkets and brick-a-brack in the visitor's center, too many bison ARE Gladie. Sure they might be a pain to take care of and cause problems when they get out, but judging by all the people who stop and ogle at them the bison were as big a deal as Sky Bridge Arch too thousands of Gorge goers. But alas the FS is concerned about public safety so away the big shaggy cows go. Afterall the FS has to manage trees and recreation to protect native species and culturally significant sites, that doesn't leave much time or money for the ole bison.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

Checked with the USFS at Stanton. Yes, the Bison have been sold and will be living somewhere in Western Kentucky with another herd.
If you wish to see them before they leave, they are scheduled for transport sometime during the week of Feb 21st, 2005.
Public safety was not cited. More a lack of suitable conditions to care for them during such cases as the horrible, horrible weather of 2004. At least one drown ... the other was accidentally killed while being sedated.

There are a few herds in Land Between the Lakes, right outside where I grew up. That's probably where they're going, they have herds of 80 or so bison on a ton of acres, really good bison-burger habitat. ![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)
