If a person plays at the batting cages all the time, is he considered a baseball player?
If a person shoots hoops in his backyard everyday, is he considered a basketball player?
If a person runs the treadmill everyday in the gym, is he considered a track runner?
If a person climbs everyday just in the gym, is he considered a rock climber? :?: :?

Yeah, what she said. But should the other side of the argument be so pretentious? No.

I mean, that's how we come across safety issues, when gym climbers claim to be rock climbers. As diggum said, there's a lot of learning that goes with it.

longlegsrule, I forgot, it's only permitted to repeat argument if the argument entails deciding whether a route is 11d, 12a or 12b.

This reminds me of a quote:
"If riding in an airplane is flying, then riding in a boat is swimming.
If you want to experience the element, then get out of the vehicle"

In my twisted, slightly odd chick-logic, this trend applies to gym climbing versus outside climbing, as well.

Forget the labels. If you're getting high on what you're doing, by all means do it.

Maybe, but there should be a "lame" plugged right in there between "real[ly]" and "rock."

Not that I care, just dig it and call yourself Jesus if you want.

I suck at fallowing these but... A person who only climbs in a gym only is most likely not a rock climber, emphises on rock. As far as guided trips go let them say what they want, rock climber, mountiner ect.. you probobly wont climb with them. echoing a theme who cares about the lable, they just climb. its up to them to define it more clearly if they want to. Becaus Im not blesed to live near any outside climbing so I realy shouldent call myself a rock climber, never mind I try to get out at least once a month. I climb mostly on plastic, but it is nothing like the real thing. For me it just comes down to geting high, ya know the rush

no they are not. there are also climbers and those that climb. i believe climbing to be a lifestyle. although many people pursue it as a hobby or a sport. which isn't bad, as long as they are content with it. but they aren't really climbers, merely sport enthuasiasts.

climbing is not a sport, it is a lifestyle and there are people out there living it.
