Lake Vesuvius National Recreation Area is part of Wayne National Forest, as such it is subject to a similar bureaucracy as RRG in D. Boone Nat. Forest. That is they have a Forest-wide Management Plan, NEPA concerns, etc. An Environmental Assessment was recently published in relation to a number of proposed improvements at Lake Vesivius. This addressed such things as camping facilities, trails, horseback riding, etc. Rock Climbing was brought up during the comment period but was dropped from any specific review with a statement that "Rock Climbing is already allowed". Historically, climbing at Lake Vesuvius has been TR, trad, & bouldering. The current climbing activity would appear to be low key & not on the radar screen of the FS at Lake Vesuvius. I am afraid that bolting at Lake Vesuvius would not be considered to fit into that historical context. Because this is under Federal jurisdiction, it is my opinion that since bolting is not explicitly allowed, such would have to be approved by the Forest Service.

As previously mentioned, the Ohio Climbers Association is currently seeking volunteers to act as a local representative in southwestern, Ohio. Such person or persons are needed to help maintain relationships with Land Managers for Lake Vesuvius, Paint Creek Lake, and Hocking Hills.
