That's assuming that you and the people you know are "most" of the climbers in Cincinnati. That's a pretty bold assumption, don't you think?
Artsay, you know that Cincy is THE HOTTEST CLIMBING scene in Ohio. Other than the little known hamlet of Oxford, OH, the bombdiggidy is in Cin-City....hence the great move!

Now, if you want to talk about "other people who climb" then I'll grant you that "some" people who "climb" live in other areas like out west in Las Vegas (ie spuzo) and I think there is one person who built a climbing gym in their bathroom, but they live in Alaska and we all know that anyone who lives or has lived in Alaska is cray-Z, so we can forgive that. I think it is pretty safe to say that the real climbers live in Hyde Park. Whereas po'me, who ain't no climber but am just aspiring-to-be-closer-to-greatness-climber will be living in E. Walnut Sum'tin (sic?) in Cin-City to try and be closer to the climbing greats.

Man, you don't have to go to UC to be able to pick up all the hot young freshman males. I'm talking location, location, location!

I really haven't heard of too many problems around my friends abode...that are unreasonable for me.

Here's the deal to allay some concerns. The "near UC" is, I think, a fair drive...across the bridge and a bit. Granted, it still isn't the best of neighborhoods but it isn't in the same shape as those closer to OTR.
And I don't think my friend would have offered the accomodations if he was worried about my safety and as you don't know him, I'll let you know, that he is indeed a HUGE worrier about things like that.

Thank you everyone for your comments, suggestions and concerns! Y'all are just more reasons why this site rocks! (Despite what other *naysayers* post in forums where they think they can hide.)

I'm a girl on a budget, a less than 12 mth contract and aspirations for a summer road trip...all affecting my decisions.

I worked in Walnut Hills for 7 years and lived in OTR for 9. Did not have a problem...just have to be aware of whats going on. Having a dog helps also.

Haha...this is a funny conversation. Be careful of Walnut Hills....haha. Its always those unfamiliar who worry.....

Where you're headed is a just fine neighborhood. I know tons of people there who never have a problem.

As far as all the climbers in Cincy living in the Hyde Park area....thats a ridiculous statement. Most of the climb time climbers, maybe, but that hardly even approaches the cincy climbing community....

You'll be right near where I play alot of shows VA....you should stop in sometime...

agreed, I climb and my boyfriend climbs and many friends climb that don't live in HP/Oakley. and you, LLR, KNOW who I and bf are...

in fact if people are wondering where the best place to live in Cincy that is near a gym, it is NOT HP/Oakley, it is north of there. and you can probably live a lot cheaper than down in Yuppie-ville

I live in the best place in Cincinnati for gym climbing, half way between CT & RQ (Sharonville / Blue Ash). I can easily walk or bike to either. Not too much rental property in these parts though.
