The grade of slope going to Long Wall with a mud surface is extreme. I bet you would rope up if there were a 1000ft drop along the edge.

The long approach is not that bad. The original peeble beach approach was slick and steep also. I always thought that was just a part of climbing. It was just apart of the warmup! and some of us old school guys did the boulder problem across from rock wars with no crash pad or tr rehearsal, just a good spot.

If you need help with that approach then what kind of rope gun will you be? Oooh, I can see it now, all the shiny gear, the well-loved rope, the slings slung over the torso...just to do a mad attack on a 5.0 that my grandmother would climb up and down to school every day in the winter, carrying her younger brother, because it was safer than risking the wildcat attack along the trails.


Speaking of other approaches, Purple Valley has fond memories for me. That is a long approach. Wading across the bridge which was 6 inches under water just to get to the approach.

At least the scenery is pretty and since I don't solo, the company always passes the time more quickly.
