But anyway, don't want to have another thread derailed.
Yas, can you answer my question from above?

I can answer Jeff. A group of us is getting together to inform the current administration about the impact of rock climbing in Kentucky. We want to make sure that as they are discussing the improvements in the State Park System that we educate them on the rock climbing ban. We're hoping to mobilize people to send letters to the governor too. But we're not quite there yet.

Even with all the recent rrgcc bashing, you are aware that they have been working on this too?
It might be a good idea to try and work with them on it, see what info they have, contacts made etc.

Oh yeah. We've been in contact with the CAC and are working with them. I was at the legislature when Shannon gave her presentation so we're aware of what went on there. The CAC has informed us that she isn't working on it right now. So we decided to take it on. This is not done to RRGCC bash. We're just doing it because the time seems ripe and we're feeling froggy.

Very well said: "...educating..." is the key. I don't think anyone is stupid, it's just hard to keep up with all the activities. Put bluntly, few people would know the impact that archery would have on state parks, and what compound bows are all about... for the same reasons, I do not expect people in charge of tourism to know anything about rock climbing... however, if we want to obtain anything positive, educating them (and us) would most likely be a great asset.
I have a video that was aired on TV... and here's the quote:
"...we are not set up for that kinda thing..."
Reference here was made to rock climbing.
(I had to listen to it several times to get a real' feel for what it was all about... education - or the lack there of...)

GREAT JOB (in advance)

Thanks Spragwa,

Now that I have a little more info, I feel better about filling out the survey, even though I could start ranting about how your group doesn't put any information out and has their own agenda

The time is right and please keep us posted on anything else that can be done to help. There is a huge potential on State park land!

Have you considered making paper copies available @ Miguels for those who don't come on here?

edit:

I just filled out the survey and when I was done, had the feeling that there could have been some more/diferent types of questions on it.
The thing about moving to Ky seemed a little vague and I don't really see where it would carry much clout.
Have you talked to Hugh? He did his paper (whatever it is you college people do when you are getting out) thesis(?) on climbers monetary impact on surrounding communities. I'm sure he would be a wealth of info.

We have copies of that dissertation actually.

Thanks for the feedback on the survey. The questions about moving to KY are relevant only in that we want to show the gov. how rock climbing actually increases the migration of people into KY. The best way to win over this administration is to show the economic impact of rock climbing. So, we're trying to educate them on it. Yasi worked hard on the survey to tailor it to the economic impact and to show them the broad demographic that rock climbing attracts. We want to overcome the scumbag rock climber image and show that people with steady incomes participate en masse.

Thanks to everyone who has filled out the survey! If you haven't filled one out yet but would still like to, please do. There will also be some hard copies at Miguel's after this weekend for those who don't have Internet access, but it would be great if we could save the paper copies for those who really need them. Also, if you know climbers in the area who don't regularly sign on to the board, but would be interested in filling out the survey, please tell them to go to this address http://www.redriverclimbing.com/phpsurv ... .php?sid=1 (you don't have to be a member of this board to fill it out).
