The gym in Chicago known as the shop is amazing! Althought its private and only certain people can be "invited" i had the privilege to go there once and it's a great establishment, best bouldering around. You can't go wrong with gyms like those.

I think that we need to find an inexpensive warehouse area. We can check the rent at the warehouses where Climbtime was located. There may also be large empty spaces out Winchester Road. I have to wonder at the cost of locating a gym on campus. When Lexington Rocks first opened the area was run down and I'm sure it was perfect. Now, I'm afraid that it would be way too expensive. If we have 20 people in the area who are interested and we find a place for $600 a month, we can spend $30 a month. If we find a place for $1000 a month we'd spend $50 each. I can think of 15 people willing to participate. I know that there are more.

I am in as well. But I think we should plan on an "entry" fee of $50-$100 per person to buy holds and plyboard. Then just devide up the monthly fee by the expenses. Maybe we can talk Nick into coming back to KY for a weekend to help design it...

Matt Seto is an incredible designer. He owns Climb Time Cincy.

There is a great private bouldering "shop" up in the Dayton area. Ask Rene or Margarita about it. It is in an older building that I assume has reasonable rent? The room it is in is living room size.

I think the idea of a co-op climbing gym is a great one. If a gym doesn't have to be profitable, that opens up a lot of options. I would be in as well.

Regarding UK, the only way to get in is with a UK student or faculty member. You pay $5 for the day and that is for the whole facility, not just the wall. The bouldering area is very small and there is no overhang. It might be a solution for a quick fix. The top ropes are 30 feet and there are some decent routes, but nothing that would be challenging to a lot of the people on this board.

I think Dipsi climbs at The Stadium too. I don't know a thing about it.

I think we should all get together and talk about how much money we can commit, who we want to include, etc. Whether we want to keep it private or go public, etc. Man, few things are ever accomplished by meetings so if no one wants to commit to another meeting we could all consider options via an e-mail list or something.

I mean we'll really need to think about sharing finances and how to do that. Mixing money is a sure way to cause friction. So I would feel better having everything established straight away! A co-op would be a huge effort with some of my best friends and it's prime ground for sowing resentment. That would really suck.

Another thing to discuss is how to approach establishing the walls and where we want to rent. For example, SCIN, Wes, Hugh and Frank could work on design; Di, Aircanada, and P2U could work on the business aspect. Just divvy stuff up.

These are just my thoughts.
