That's what I mean, Wes. My understanding was the FA was done with the gear already placed and HF did it "ground up", as in "Here's the rock, here's my gear on my harness/sling, whatever, here's my hand on the rock".

Ho didn't get the FA. Steve Petro got the FA with one piece placed. I have learned from listening to others that it's entirely ethical to do a hard trad line like that with a cople of pre-placed pieces and still claim the FA. Man there are tons of strange FA's out there. Apparently, one climber got the FA at a hard climb at the Mother Lode by clipping an eight foot sling attached to the anchors. Did he do the last few moves? Don't know.

You know what Rainman, I just re-read your post and realized that you never claimed that HF got the FA. My bad man. Just forget all of that blather.

i've climbed with dagger-x several times. even belayed him on wtok. he was pretty close to getting...fell once at the crux. i think you guy's owe him an apology.

I know a Black Dagger. It's a sweet overhanging crack with chimney moves at the base of Yosemite Falls.
