Could be worse. In Japan and Germany, gas is currently over US$5 per gallon, and in London it's about US$6 per gallon. Of course, in all those places that extra tax goes to pay for really great train systems, so you aren't a slave to your car. (Then again, the train system in England was privatized a few years ago, and it's been really mis-managed by the private owners - so the Brits are really, really f***ed)

On the other hand, becuase the government owns the oil company, in Venzuela gas is closer to US$0.20 per gallon.

I have a regular Civic, and I'm getting 40 mpg on every tank. I don't know how cost-effective a hyrbid is when you figure you're only getting a few more mpg and paying thousands more for the vehicle itself. And as far as being enviro-friendly, my car is an "Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle," which is the same thing the Insight is certified to be.

Today, Thorton off of WInchester Rd (Lexington) is charging 1.82 for gas.
