Miguel's would definately be on my list for dirtbagging... however, this guy says he wants to walk to the crags.

Yeah but you can ALWAYS catch a lift from Miguels and really, you COULD walk to Roadside...or Torrent and so on.....depended on how dedicated you were and how early you could get yourself to leave from Miguels.

having lived on the road for the last 2 years I can tell you that the best summer dirtbag spot is SQUAMISH. I spent less than 100 dollars canadian there for the entire month i was there. I didn't even need to fill my car with gas in Canada once becuase everything is within walking distance. there are tons of dirtbag climbers there all summer so climbing partners are no problem. there is kick-ass bouldering, awesome trad and multi-pitch and decent sport. there is pretty good dumpster diving and by chipping into a group site camping is really cheap.
oh and the weather is near perfect.
other places people hang in the summer are:
camp 4(hot and crowded, go up to toulame)
vedawoo(ask wes)
wild iris(ask wes)
boulder(no where to camp legally)
estes park(not walking distance to anything)
rifle(only hard sport climbs)
there are not that many great summer spots to dirtbag, but when you have squampton, you don't need much else.

Damn, Merrick... Squamish sounds better everytime you talk about it! I'm thinking about it... a lot...
Shame I didn't get to practice dumpster diving out at Red Rocks-- looks like I may have to work on my technique this summer...

Vedauwoo isn't a good spot if you don't have a car, as it is 20 miles to the nearest town. It does have lots of free camping. And finding partners isn't to bad, plus there is a ton of bouldering.
Wild Iris / Sinks have some free camping and you can walk to the crag. Parters shouldn't be to hard to find as well. You *could* walk to Lander from Sinks (maybe 5 miles, each way), but not from wild iris.

Seneca, has a centralized campground, easy access (hike) to easily a month's worth of routes and you don't have to pass thru Kansas and eastern Colorado

Could you take a bike along? I've taken bikes on greyhounds and amtrak w/o any problems. This would extend your dirtbaging distances by quite a bit. What about chatty? there's a whole lot of climbing all around there. You could ride to Twall and signal mnt., catch rides to foster falls, etc. Seems to be enough folks down there climbing that sequestering a partner would be easy. Twall alone has free camping and enough to climbing that you could stay for weeks.
