gotta disagree p2u. the original is a pile. it goes up a totally different route and then traverses over. the direct looks way more aesthetic, plus it takes an independent line to the top.

I agree with HO, the original has to traverse that chossy shitty ledge. it is just a route that people like to do so they can say they did 13a, when in fact it is only probably 12c/d. But hey they give harvest 13a so then maybe it is, But I dont know anything so dont listen to me. Im old and all washed up. and so is everyone else on this Board.

Why is it that everyone thinks that their hardest redpoint is their favorite climb, or that the harder version of a route or boulder problem is the best?

Just curious.

By the way calling the original line of Table "chossy" - Allah or "a pile"-HO is absurd :P

not true. for example, 1) another doug reed route - harder way is contrived; 2) the campus begining to revival is pretty dumb; 3) the .12 c variation of scissors is crap; 4) the direct start to stay the hand is pretty silly; i could think of more with time.

original table isn't a pile i guess, but seriously...anyone who looks at those routes with an unbiased opinion would choose the direct. the original is just an eliminate of the real line.

check the guide book:

Table of Colors, original version 5.13a *** (S)
FA: Porter Jarrard, Mark Williams, 1990

17a. Table of Colors, direct start 5.13b *** (S)
FA: Porter Jarrard, Mark Williams, 1996.

so for 6 years there was only one route and it was all the rage all over the deep south!!

yep, an eliminate was the rage for 6 years until people saw the light.

That's not accurate. I had seen the real Table in all its glory around '93-94 with my own two eyes. Plus, if I remember correctly, Porter wasn't climbing much in 1996.

It might not have accured to anyone but maybe they werent strong enough, and didnt have the vision to see the direct start right away. And you guys cant say that the ledge isnt chossy. I guess if i had to compare the 2 i would give the direct 3 stars and the original 2 stars. there is no way that anyone could ever say that the direct is alot better. the only reason people would say it is better is because they are too week to do it.

The direct start was done before 96.
