Yep. Usually some drunk forestry major who walks off a cliff in the middle of the night going to pee. There's at least two of these a year.

The bad this about the way this thread is going is that I had a frat brother walk off a cliff back in Fall '99. I didn't make it back to the Red till spring '01. Folks still are a nervous wreck while I'm there.

Would there be anyway to get a petition started. I dont know if it would help, but I know everyone who climbs at the red, or was passing through, would sign it if it were at miguels...

Or at the the top of creature feature.... :D

how did climbing and rappeling get grouped in the same category? because they both use ropes?

i doubt a petition would help. i think only someone explaining the situation to an open minded government official can help.

So, if climbing were to be allowed but not rappelling, could you then be arrested/fined/whatever if you decided to double rope rap to lower yourself from the anchors instead of being lowered and contributing to the wear on the anchors?

There's a few issues to be worked out here...

good question. maybe climbers are more careful in the construction of rap anchors?

spuzo He was from western KY. Tried to go back to the parking area, alone at night, to get something. Didn't take any light or his light failed. Walked right off. Wasn't there but that was what the group that went said and the FS/whoever determined.
