Update...

After about $3000.00 and a shit load of frustration and hard work, my Westy is back on the road! :D I bought a engine conversion from Tiico...http://www.tiico.com...it's a new(not re-built) engine for VW golf/jettas and is sold as a conversion kit for the vanagons. The installation was mostly easy but full of set backs and took much longer than I had expected!

Runs awesome, I went from a 2.1 litter waterbox with about 90 HP to a 2.0 in-line 4 with 118 HP...now I can cruise on the freeway at about 75 MPH and not worry about destroying the engine!

Yep. You are definitely styling with that new engine. When I see a Westy that is running well I get all nostalgic for my old one. I hope this engine lasts for you.

Sure you can, until it sputters and dies because you forgot to fill it up with gas! :P

Just kidding, rhunt, your Westy is awesome. I'm really glad it's working out for ya-- when I saw this thread I thought it had died on the way home, but I'm glad it was a positive update!

Kick ass rhunt! Glad you got it going. I just finished the first month with Westy #2 and so far she's been to TN, NC, and the Red. 10 nights and 3200 miles so far. Got it with 86K miles and after a little electrical love she's purring like a kitten.

It's nice to have wish lists at busdepot and gowesty again. :D

charlie, This is my first Westy and I am looking forward to many cool road trips in it. I've only had it to the Red twice now but super fun. It was really nice to be chillin in my van when it was pouring down rain Sunday Morning at Miguels.
