Oh, Wes from Indiana... as in Wes Tite, my boss at the climbing gym? Maybe that is why I saw the video. Are you talking about Leah, the chick that broke her ankle bouldering last week, Wes?

Yep.

The articale mentioned that only like 13 percent of the subscribers are female. I think it does have a lot to do with ratios. But not totally.

man here in hueco there are at least four women who crank v11 or harder right now. it is pretty sick. but they all have boyfriends or are married. does that make them girls who just climb with their boyfriends? I wonder how many new problems they put up?

of course there are also at least 4 male v13/14 climbers here.

but the women are definately representing.

I got to meet her and hang out with her and her crew for a day when I was recently in Vegas. She is awesome! Helpful and encouraging. She is making her first trip to the RRG in April - I hope her trip is ruined with rain!

i don't understand why someone would claim a first female ascent. it only further seperates men from women when it doesn't make a difference. it's like claiming the first ascent by someone with glasses, it's doesn't make any sense. i guess if you need the ego trip of claiming the first female ascent, go ahead.

and claiming that small hands can help that applies to all people. we each have a helpful/harmful characteristic when it comes to climbing.

I remember reading a Beth Rodden interview in some magazine where she mentioned that she can fit her fingers into piton scars here and there in places like Yosemite. I would imagine that's what they mean when they say small fingers help in certain situations. But sure, other characteristics help, too, like height (coughAndrewcough ;) )

in the same the article she claimed 3" cracks were incredibly hard for her. small hands help and hurt you. tight hands for most guys are good for me, but regular to wide hands can be tougher for me. it's all relative.
