The problem is that cruel and unusual punishment is not allowed.

Hogi, that's a really good point.   Sick and twisted people should be tortured.

It appears you can relax, but even if they haven't got the right guy or guys you can still rest easy knowing that the statistics are in your favor. Especially if you aren't pumping gas, shopping crafts and home improvment goods.

I am currently watching my best friend die a little each day as the first year following her son's murder passes. Her right to be a mother was taken away in a matter of moments during a random robbery. We have tried to help her through Mother's day, his birthday, her birthday, and all the things that would have taken place in the last half of his senior year. I can't help but think that lack of parental concern is one of the major problems our society faces today. Kids turn to each other when there are no adults to monitor their actions. We've all done things to impress our peers (hence my dodging buckshot), but it seems the thrills are more evil now and apathy prevails. I'm not blaming the current trend of single parents; I am one myself. I believe there are too many people having children for the wrong reasons and not facing the responsibility of directing them. We seldom had free time as teens. We worked on the farm, ran a family business, and had school activities not to mention church and family obligations. When we had free time, we knocked on hermits' doors and tipped over an occasional outhouse. Generally, we were too tired to do much else. My parents did not tolerate misbehavior. I was actually more afraid of my parents finding out about the shooting than I was of being shot! An idle mind is the devil's playground. The devil is more savvy now than in my youth. I know, blah, blah, blah, "walked ten miles uphill to school every day", but I truly believe this.
