No shit. This kid is 13 and can crank something FIERCE! Shut the hell up about the "sponsor" this, "sell-out" that, "over-exposure" the other thing. The bottom line is this kid can climb...HARD!...harder than 95% of the people on this site, I would wager. Yeah, the whole "dozen sponsors, including a car dealership" thing is funny, but, unless his sponsors are telling him to "throw" a climb, or do something unethical, then who the f*&k cares is he's getting gear for free, etc. So, Petzl makes "crap" gear? Is that what I'm reading? He's endorsing inferior equipment just to make a buck, or doesn't actually use what he claims he uses (as if it made a HUGE difference)? Climbing is football, is tennis, is hockey, is running, is triathlons, is cycling, is "insert any damn activity here that was "young" at some time. It is unlikely climbing will ever have the same draw as the big 3 (football, baseball and basketball), but, it DOES have a draw and the draw is increasing, like ANY OTHER ACTIVITY. With the increased draw, more and more kids will get into climbing BECAUSE they see kids like this one, or Allen, or Rodden, or Sharma, or whomever. As a result of increased participation, more and more people with the genetic potential to really push current limits will get into climbing. It's all about numbers. The number of potentially great climbers does not increase, just the likelyhood that one of these prodigies will actually get into climbing.

...AND, if you naysayers would have bothered to actually LOOK through that site, you would have found a cool article written about him in the Nov 18th '03 USA Today indicating he's just a 13-yr old kid who can climb really well.
