A girl with out a hair dryer is like a girl without 100 pairs of shoes!
I know I'll catch flak for that!

Nail polish works - it just doesn't stay on forever. But, it last about as long as tape.

Like Spraqwa, I pee on all of my gear to mark it. However, that is only for the dogs who are able to smell urine even months after it has dried. For the human race, I defecate on my gear. Not only does this discourage people from stealing my gear, but they are able to physically see the evidence of my markings. Blood or boogers will also work.
Another nice thing about the defecation method of marking is that you don't need to buy a new roll of tape every time that your old tape wares off. All you need to do is step off the trail, take a little dump, and then wipe it up with your gear. If you repeat this every time you climb, all of your gear will have the telltale brown color of your markings.

Hey, I have an idea: goto to an electronics supply store and purchase Heat Shrink Tubing. It comes in a bunch of different colors and diameters/lengths and only will set yo back about .75/foot. Cut it to about .5", slip it over the biner, and heat it via a hair dryer (borrowed?) I bet the durability would be much longer than electrical tape...

Pretty cool science, but I'm far too lazy to go to such lengths. Tape baby.
