This is off big bend, pocket is off little bend. About a mile or two west.

Cool little video on their facebook. Touches on some issues relevant to climbing access like road/trail maintenance and forest service involvement.

I am really curious to see how this unfolds, and I will be shocked if it works. I see their point, but is this really the right way to do things, and what type of precedent does it set up for other user groups? I was thinking about commenting further about what this may lead to but I don't know enough about the OHV community to intelligently comment.

I agree it seems a bit aggro to us delicate suburban rock climbers, but this is more than just the OHV community rabble-rousing--the Lee and Powell County local officials, tourism boards, and road crews are all involved.

Update from Lee County's Take Back the Narrows group (https://www.facebook.com/TakeBackTheNarrows):

"Latest news is that media have been interviewing people on big bend rd. Some citizens are already there. Rangers have avoided media and left. They are not currently on the site... This thing is exploding! Everyone please keep up the pressure and we WILL win. Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!"

Sorry, one last update with some background info... this is BIG news for Lee, Powell, and Wolfe Counties!:

"The United States Forest Service and the Powell County judge executive are going to battle over a public road in Daniel Boone National Forest.

Here is a little background: County Road 1057 Sand Lick Road (AKA The Narrows Road) was illegally closed and damaged in 2006 without the county consent. The county judge executive sent the county road crew in last Tuesday to reopen the road, which they did. On Friday, the road again was retrenched and a Forest Ranger is now posted to guard the county road. Yesterday morning, the ranger threatened to arrest the county road workers who showed up to reopen their road along with the judge if he showed his presence.

The judge has proof the road is county road 1057 Sand Lick Road and also that the documentation the USFS used to close and damage it was filled with errors, including stating the road was not a county road.

Here is the part that I thought would be of interest to the News...

On Wednesday April 3rd at 9AM, county judge executive James D. Anderson is leading his county road crews and general public to reopen it once and for all. He has written permission from Wolfe County to open their portion of the road as well.

The reopening will happen at the entrance from Big Ben Road. Sand Lick Rd is shown on Bing as Sheltowee Trace and listed on Google Maps as Zachariah 4WD Trail Fd-1104.

Sand Lick Road is a few miles down Big Bend Road just outside Zachariah, KY (41301) which is in between Slade, KY and Beattyville, KY. "
