If parking is a concern, you are welcome to use Muir's upper lot.

TRAIL DAY UP CHUFFERS!

So we have roughly 30 people that have sent in a RSVP. Which is making it a decent size trail day!........ But it could be bigger. PLEASE PLEASE RSVP if you plan to attend. the more folks we have the more work gets done and it gets done faster! details are below. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

We have several key areas we want to work on this weekend they are (but not limited to)

1. Gravel is being strategically dumped by our local driver from Ross tires in beatyville. The man can spread gravel with a dumptruck like no other. However we will still need to shovel and rake some key areas. This is a small patch job to get us through until the road crews begin their work!

2. Paul Morley has donated the material (and the efforts required) to build a bridge on the trail to the darkside to replace the creek crossing currentently made of 3 slippery logs. We are going to need strong backs to get the material that far in to the trail, as well as getting the bridge built!

3. Parking lot at the bottom of the lode hill has a small creek crossing with a bridge that desparetly needs moving/repairing. We will be making the bridge safer as well as moving it to a less erosion prone area of the creek (about 15yrds upstream)

4. Gate going to the darkside has been vandalized and we need to repair it. It only needs a post reset and fence repaired.

5. On the trail past the gate in the sore heel area there is a high water shed area where the trail meets with the old oil road. We are going to install a culvert to divert watershed off our trail.

6. I would like to begin cutting trees for the new parking lot to the flat holler area. This will require a small crew but will have a large impact in the very near future.

7. Lastly there is a creek crossing downstream from the lode parking at bottom of the hill that could use a water crossing. We have a new concept we are going to try here but may not make it on our list of items for that day but it will be our backup plan for additional work to be done if we have the crew to make it happen.

Tools needed specifically are

- wheel barrows!!! concrete is heavy and we need to travel a distance with it.

- shovels

- rakes

- maddoxes

- picks

you should also bring

-water

- gloves

- CLOSED TOE SHOES you WILL NOT be allowed to participate unless your feet are covered. RRGCC trail work policy

- CLIMBING GEAR!!! we wont be working all day

Please try to carpool as we will have many folks in the area already the less vehicles we have the better.

Be at the parking lot at the bottom of the lode hill @ 9:30 am ready to work. Please be punctual or a little early so we can get work started and completed in a timely manner so that we might get some pebble wrestling in before the day is out!

FYI we repaired/extended the footbridge last weekend, but doing additional shoring up/erosion prevention work would certainly be valuable and worth the time. The area is rapidly eroding and the main trail to the Lode and Bear's Den is getting stupidly wide from the lack of stepping stones and/or mud coverage catwalks during the rainy season.

The work on the ML bridge was great work, but it definitely needs more support because it flexes quite a bit. Can I provide anything?

I'm not sure what winter has to do with a flexing bridge, but it wasn't long enough. =)

People tend to consume more calories in winter... j/k :) Sounds like the trail is getting rerouted anyway, so it turned out to be a waste of time and nails.
