when you say you don't lead i assume that also means you don't lead belay?

i ask because i might be willing to stay that week and show ya'll the ropes (proly coming down this upcoming weekend w/ a ride and could proly find a ride back the next weekend) but if neither of ya'll can lead belay it wouldn't do much good!

I think you need to get lead belay and lead certified at climbtime or Rockquest before you come out. Or hire a guide. Unless you can hook up with a group of climbers that will let you climb on their top ropes. As mentioned earlier, it would be really selfish of you to learn how to lead belay on someone who is volunteering to show you how to climb outdoors. The only excuse you could possibly have for this is that you didn't feel like taking the time at your gym. So it is either going to take effort or $ depending on your prefference. Good luck and keep us posted

Why would it be selfish? It'd be better for him to learn how to lead belay with an experienced climber than with a total gumby. He's gotta start somewhere. And if you're not experienced enough to allow a beginner to lead belay you on moderate (beginner) routes, then you probably shouldn't be instructing in the first place. It's routine for a guide to so on a daily basis.

Good point, if you are instructing them. I was referring to them coming out and acting like they know how to lead belay, but not really knowing. I guess I just don't understand why they can't seek out the $5 class at their gyms and learn before hand rather then coming out and taking some other climbers time. Unless they can pony up and hire a guide and get proper instruction.
