It is my honest opinion based on everything we tried. We had a large group one time and everyone had something different for bug spray. It was August and the bugs were out in force. The Off deep woods, Off skintastic, Repel and 3M did not keep away the biting flies. Everyone was going to the skin so soft by the end of the day. We found that it kept the biting flies a couple feet away as soon as you put it on. Nothing else worked on the biting little flies.

Most of the products worked on mosquitoes but not biting flies.

i've never noticed the bugs. is this common in this part of the country? is there a book? a pamphlet? an FAQ?

We were actually climbing in virginia in a pretty un-developed area so it may have just been the fact that there are not normally people around so they were checking us out but there was around 6 of us and they were terrible everywhere. They seemed to enjoy going into your eyes also.
