Yes. 5-piece grade 5.kneebar wrote:Was it a dynabolt gold?
It was the rock that failed, not the bolt. Any type of bolt placed here—glue-in or mechanical—would have experienced the same demise. In this case, the bolt and hanger remained completely intact.
Some Corbin sandstone consistency = Ritz crackers. And what choss lurks underneath the surface is anyone's guess. We've measure compressive strengths of sandstone examples here anywhere from about 200 psi to over 4000 psi.

Pay attention and be alert out there. This happened so fast and un-expectadly. Very happy things turned out as they did though because if anything was done differently, the outcome could have been much worse.
Re: Bolts Blowing
This is why large spacing between bolts 1, 2 and 3 bother me. One bolt failure and you're fucked up.
Re: Bolts Blowing
Good job Jeff, glad things worked out alright for you Russ... Amazing variation in the strengths of the rock samples as noted by Rick.
Re: Bolts Blowing
Good thing somebody didn't blow it going to the third bolt......would haved decked for sure. Not trying to downgrade the save but all the cards sound like they fell in the right order for a second bolt blowing. Hanging at the bolt and a excellent belayer.
Nice job Jeff, you can belay me anytime!

I have said this about a few too many incidents that went down while climbing. Don't you feel like you won the F-ing lottery?!Jeff wrote:Pay attention and be alert out there.
