I climb worse in the gym, and I am a gym rat.

personally, I hate leading in the gym and it scares me more than anything in climbing. I don't always know the belayer, I dont know how sturdy the wall is, even at 4 ft seporation every fall seems like a ground fall because the rout is only 30 ft long, and it seems harder to get a soft catch.
How you compare may not be as important as to whom you are compared

Oh, If I was interested in making myself feel better about sucking I would just climb with you...

I think doing routes 40 feet and up just gives you endurance you can't simulate in a gym. Not to mention the adrenaline that pushes you that little bit further when your on a long run out or a no fall situation.

This seems super obvious to me. Climbing indoors is less technical. Climbing indoors is more physical. Why do you think 90% of finger injuries come in the gym?

What freaks me out is the climber that can climb 5.13 outside and falls on 5.11 indoors or better yet V4 looks like their limit. WTF?

Ha ha, me too Lee--I climb at least a number grade or sometimes two harder outside. The gym doesn't even feel like climbing to me.

Its endurance for me. Most climbs outside are twice as long as ones inside a gym
