I'll use a tree regardless of whether or not it's on a bolted or gear route. Although I've never been on a bolted route where using a tree would've made the crux of a route easier so it really doesn't matter. Usually they're pruned by the FA from sport lines.

There are a couple of gear lines where trees make the route easier though. By this I mean that if the tree was gone, the route would be a bit harder. One of them is Jaws at Muscle Beach. Another is the beginning of the first pitch of Foxfire. Hmmm....can't think of any others.

Bedtime for Bonzo,Curving Crack, the one on Foxfire makes it 3 grades easier.
And theres Scooby Snack, its sport and I cruised right back to the crux by chimneying the tree.

I was pretty thankful for the tree I slung on Roadside Attraction.

And as far as ethics go, I'm pretty sure Leah and I decided it was completely ethical to put a draw back on a bolt while cleaning a route in order to help you through the crux... :P

Go for it Sik, an opportunity for a ground breaking f/a! The Red needs more Euro / out West style link ups! Just add another bolt between Centerfire and Bandolier to create your own master-piece, Bandofire, as you have dubed it! Maybe you could start on Recoil and finish on Wad Cutter...now that would be bad ass! Just think you could go there on a busy fall Saturday and hog the entire wall by climbing through everything left to right.

Really...in my opinion link ups are as gay as skipping the "big hold / hueco / knee bar" right next to the bolt line b/c it is cheating!

Oh, and to answer your quetion, I've never heard of or seen anyone link these two climbs, thank god!

Hmmmmm.......Recoil to Wadcutter........

Seriously though, I only brought it up because I had seen (while hanging out in my cheater hueco) chalk going that direction so I knew SOMEONE had done it, I was just wondering if anyone HERE had done it. I guess it was some crazy Frenchman or something! :D

Don't those silly frenchies color code the hangers on traverse routes or something. To avoid confusion I guess. Man that would be gay. Freakin pink hangers going from the ground of wadcutter to chains of Recoil and Blue hangers from the ground of Recoil to the anchor of wadcutter. Clear as gay mud.
