Nice YNP1! Well articulated thought. I love the sentiment despite it being bat shit crazy.

I say there are two kinds of people in this world, those that think about people in terms of groups and those that don't......

Spoonman... You are right, I think you could have just used my pole and vote for Don't Care. But you made yourself look kind of foolish with your response and that is your choice. As for lables, I am Matthew Thomsen, the lable given to me by my parents, Bill and Lori. Yes, go ahead and argue that Matthew was a bad name for me, because it is Biblical and I think you know that doesn't work for me. I even think it is a little IRONIC and I am sure my parents do too (I was not named after the Matthew in the Bible, but my dads best friend).

camhead... You are fully correct!. I was joking when I said that the name should be Pinchot Vally and I over simplified because I didn't feel like writing a full 10 page paper on Conservation vs. Preservation. I have done it! I could even post it if you would like to read it. I have a BS and MS in Recreation and Park Administration, I have gone deep into both ideas. I would love to call myself a preservationist... I love the idea! But like you said, I am very much not. None of us are that love to enjoy the outdoors.

NOW, TO GIVE SOME CREDIT TO THE WEBERS... I like the idea of naming the valley after Muir. The guy is one of my heroes and helped protect some of my favorite places. They are also not the first people to name something after Muir that goes against is ideas. The John Muir Trail is a highway for hikers that go through the Sierra Nevada Mountains, not exactly something the Muir would like to see.

I would also guess that a LARGE percentage of people that visit the valley, don't know or care who it is named after. If they new more about Muir maybe they would be less likely to piss under rock shelters and shit every where. I think if more people would be curious and ask questions, then they would learn a lot, better themselves, and the world.

As for why I didn't just PM them directly... Well, I don't think it is a bad thing to have out in the open. I was very respectful and I think more people now will think about what John Muir stood for when they visit MV. That would be better for everybody (the Webers more so then us, because they have to put up with and clean our shit)!

I also kind of have a bigger problem with, the PMRP. Why is it named that? Don't WE own it? Why can we call it,"Kickass Redneck Playground"? Or anything else would be better then the current name. I don't even like calling it that. It is still just the southern reagion to me.

I like PMRP. I was kind of always waiting for Odub to do a wrap spinoff of that "Muthuhfuckin P-I-M-P" song, but about climbing in the muthuhfucking PMRP.

Hey Matt, I am Greg....or at least that what most poeple call me....

I was trying to make two points:

1. They can name it what ever they want. (I think they tell us on their web, but I just assume John inspired them and.... that is good enough for me.)

2. The second point is lables are generalized to have inherant meaning/substance that is understood by all and have a objective reality.

He is a jew, she is black, he is Ni--er, he was a preservationist, she is a conservatinist. One - it is not that simple, two.....it is just a lable.....think of how many people have been persecuted, killed, etc because....he or she is (=) an X ?

Questioning the webers....8 or nine years after the fact.....call it "Disneyland", "Fairyland', call it random ....."P235Xy78q"....it really is inmaterial.

Foolish, ....thinking the message gets translated effeciently my another biocomputer......i meant no offence to you....

generalizing lables....pet pieve (sp?)

One of my wife's cat's....names is Gabriel.....Biblical.......I kinda doubt the label is that relavent to the organisim.....Maybe more so to the wife?.....its just a cat to me, fat, lazy, kinda cute but......

As for Pendgrass -Murry....I would have to double check....but I think that was the family/previous owners who sold us the land knowing what it was going to be used for....recreation, specifically climbing.

I have no problem honoring them in our pursuits.......

I was always for them naming the southern region as the"Kool Klimber Klub"
