I usually say a quick hi or howdy in passing on a trail unless the person has the obvious I'm totaly cool and so much better than you aditude, then I just ignore them.

I hate everyone who ain't from KY. Them damn out-of-staters think they own this place, comin in here and crowdin' things up. I don't speak wit nobody less theys from KY. I tell em' foreigners they ain't supposed to be here, this is OUR land!

But it seems like the last three options might be dividing up the votes. Either way the nice guys are in the lead.

At the risk of sounding elitist. I don't usually talk to people at crowded easier cliffs; your 10 wall at roadside, your Bruise Brothers wall, your slab areas. It might be a function of what Dustonian is talking about. More likely, I feel like we are not talking the same language. I love talking about climbing at the cliff and if you don't know the difference between a Redpoint and a onsight or Chris Sharma and Chris Cringle we are NOT going to have a conversation that is memorable in a good way.

To be clear, it is not that I feel like they don't belong there. I am the one that is intruding. I feel awkward...... This is sound elitist too. I am going to stop....

thats how i say hi at the cliffs, walmart and the flea markets. great minds....

Usually I can tell within 5 minutes if i'm going to like someone i meet in life... this applies to the crag as well. i've got the gift of gab. It seems i've lived everywhere, so i can usually relate to a out-of-state climber on that level.

i'm pretty cool with everyone though... even if they do make me wanna punch them in the face.

I agree that the crag you're at determines the level of climbing related conversation you're likely to have.

I really like meeting people who are members of this forum... putting a face with a screen name is cool. met dustonian last weekend at Rival. He's in the "nice and say hello" category.l
