Not much, and neither you or I are experts in all the "fuzzy math" that goes behind the GDP numbers. Listen to 550 AM at 6 PM - there is a really good non-politcal finance show on called Simply Money. The two hosts have been convincingly attacking the reported GDP numbers recently as not representing reality. Even if we do have "real" GDP growth, it isn't a meaningful economic indicator if the growth is funded by national debt.Andrew wrote:Our GDP did just grow this last quarter. Is that not growth?
And i am entitled to a $.99 DOUBLE cheesburger. I will not patron an establishment that does not offer one!
I've been a gumby longer than you've been climbing.
Just a quick question on something that kinda confuses me:
If it is socialist and not the governments responsibility to make sure that everyone has reasonable health care, then why is it the governments responsibility to make sure everyone has good jobs, which usually come with health insurance? Seems like providing jobs would be kinda, I don't know, but maybe socialist?

America is not socialist its a free market society. It has a goverment that has welfare programs that in a time of crisis step up and support the citizenry.
As far as promoting job growth. Thats part of the preamble to the constitution. You know that document that this country was formed on. "To promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty..."
Ya see free heathcare would be taking from someone(somebodys gotta pay for it) and giving it to another(who can't pay for it or won't). Thats real simple thats part of the one that is under the "just compensation" clause.
Really you guys should get a copy of it and read it before you debate it.

If you give a man a match, he'll be warm for a minute. If you set him on fire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life!
social security is taking from one to give to another clevis..who is gonna pay for mine?
The Earned Income Crredit gives money to poor people with kids, taking out of the pocket of average and high wage earners...just compensation? are you kidding me?
unemployment is taking from the working stiff and giving to the non working stiff...hope you don't use that.
America is clearly not a free market country...we pretend to be, but who owns the car companies? Washington? Who owns the major
banks? Washington. Who subsidizes farmer crops? Washington? When someone buys a car or house in the last year, who gives them free money? Washington. Who..ah, never mind. Instead of reading the preamble, maybe you should bone up on current realities in our economy.

First Wes is correct - if we don't want government in charge of health care, then we should not expect governement to "fix" the economy, jobs, etc. But unfortunately we do not operate a barter/trade economy. The government is the only entity that can protect our currency - and our economy depends on the dollar not collapsing under our debt.
I'm also going to request the government not inhibit economic growth by siezing private sector assets (taxes).
Lastly, social security was never intended to redistribute wealth - its purpose was to basically create a 401K for people so they wouldn't be eating cat food in their old age. No government program ever becomes what it was planned to be!!
