So I didn't even get to watch the whole speech last night. I passed out after Obama suggested the government pay off our student loans.

I'm such a sucker, actually paying my debts....

Most public schools (and many private) require a minimum of a Masters to teach. Most of those teachers make less than ~40K a year. How is limiting the payment requirement to 10% of their annual income and putting a 20 year cap on it a bad thing?

No-one thinks you're a sucker for paying off your debt. You would only be a sucker if you didn't take advantage of a program like this because you're too stubborn. :)

bcombs, hope you are talking commnity colleges, casue there ain't a high school in this state that requires a masters to teach...not one. right andrew?

why should teachers be given any more breaks than other professions? that is a crock. teaching is no more admirable than any other profession, give me a break. plus, I don't care what teachers say, they are paid for working 9 months a year, so their salary is fine.

Based on you bringing in Andrew, I'm going to assume you know your first line is false.

I used the teacher example because my wife is one, and it is a notoriously low paying job for the amount of education it requires.

Yes, they get the summers off. If they worked year round would they get paid what they are worth?

My wife was the last class to not need a master's degree (elementary in Ohio) to teach. Although she only works 9 months a year, she is there at least 2 weeks before and after the school year, and she always works more than 40 hours/week. She also makes more than 50K.

teachers are just lazy. andrew spends time that he could be teaching or learning new ideas on education to share with the youth of our world. and he spends it here.
