get yourself some big slopey campus rungs. 4" PVC pipe, cut in half, with grip tape, mounted vertical surfaces (like, on the underside of a staircase). it works your core more than anything, and actually makes campusing fun. maybe it's just me, but campusing on little crimps always seemed retarded.

Good luck with the dowels. I've found that the Metolius rungs are worth the money.
