Since I only send one project per season (or less), I usually stroke my own ego by talking about the one send I had that season (or last season) to anyone who will listen. Also, I make sure to bring it up if I am falling or hanging on another route.

Oh... and I bring it up if anyone who climbs harder than I do (which is most people) fall on something I have previously sent. Of course, the person may be falling on the onsight and it probably took me 20+ tries to send it.

It's a compensatory behavior, really, because I know that I suck.

I want a camaro.

I wish I still had that 72 Camaro. It held the road like a train. I keep seeing the same car in a pizza commercial. It had small round tail lights. The back seat was choice at the drive in.

I do love the Twinkie story. My Twinkie story is lame by comparison but I will throw it in anyway.

I pulled up to the main parking area. It must of been late fall because I could clearly see the cliff. There were people climbing Twinkie. I was climbing in the 5.10 range at the time so I was in awe that people could even climb Twinkie. So I was looking up very intently from the parking lot while they climbed it. I guess they knew I was looking because the guy that was climbing it, that just happened to be bat hanging at the upper rest, yells down at me. "Hey, you should do this route. It's pretty easy." I replied "uh, maybe later".

whats funny JR is that he was right. That route is "pretty easy" for you now. So... was it really spray or just seeing into the future.

so a few of us are at tghe load a while back and a gentleman who shall remain nameless is there. he has apparently been working....skinboat i believe, (the one with the big sopping hole at the start) and ties in for a go. well mr. somebody batmans up to the second bolt and then climbs from there all the way to the top. comes down and is like, "YES!!, i finally sent my project!!" we all quizically look at one another but whatever. he then replys, "one of you is my lucky charm and i'm going to by you guys some beer for it." being dirtbags we are fine with that. well Mr. S leaves first and tells us he'll leave the beer for us.
we get back to the mig's and down to our table and low and behold there is a six pack with one beer missing from it and there were four of us plus mr.s.
i guess if you send from the second you only buy a fiver.

I must confess that I did it on accident a few weeks back.
We warmed up at the Chica Bonita routes around The Dude Abides, and then walked over to Drive-By to finish the day off. I was waiting in line for Whipstocking, and talking to this guy from Wisconsin.
He said I was lucky for being local and asked how often I got out. I told him twice a week a year ago, but that that day was going to be my only day of climbing this fall because I have a newborn son at home.
I then went on to say that I was feeling weak and had a tough time and getting pumped on a ten. (Due to not climbing as much).

He gave me a weird look, like he was offended. But we continued to talk about different things. His partners were climbing 13s so I made the mistake of thinking he was in their same range.
He got on Whipstocking and had a hard time, falling a few times, and didn't finish it.

I then got on it after him, sent it, and I don't think he was impressed. I felt bad. I really wasn't trying to toot my own horn, but I think he thought I was.

yeah, I do stuff like that a lot too. I don't mean to try to sound impressive, its usually a reaction to my own feelings of inadequacy, or just making excuses so everyone will know I crank much harder, just not any day they have seen me.
