i like this thread more and more. chainsaws, trail building and free labor. bring it on...

Most backwoods trail work does not require gas powered chainsaws- overkill and noisy- please limit impact. Plus it leaves more room for the drills.

No trail work can be done on Forest Service land without coordination with them. The RRGCC will have a trail day in RRG sometime this fall after Rocktoberfest. This will probably be focussed on the Military/Left Flank areas. We could probably knock out the Pebble Beach work too.

Trails to Fortress are not "official" system trails so unfortunately nothing can be done there. In the future it is possible that a system trail to Fortress could be designed, approved, and built.

what if they just disappear and a pile of sawdust takes its place?

improving access/steps to the zoo would be great - who owns it? who do I call?

I'm pretty sure that the Zoo is on Forest Service land.

hey-thinking that same trail (and clearing the two dead snags hanging over routes..requiring climbing..with a chainsaw, evil dead style, an old school trad ethic) would be about a day's work; i was working towards taking a few extra days away in a month or so....let me know?

I think the Zoo is private property.

So this means there are precise definitions of what constitutes trail building.
For instance, walking repeatedly through the woods on the same path. Or, of course, one cannot chop down a tree in the National Forest. Similarly, digging a hole in a National Forest requires prior approval. Most importantly, one must not discuss with a nearby humanoid the relative productive capacity, spatio-temporally speaking, of a vestigial vegetative protuberance.

I think it would be cool if there was a trail between the North 40 and Purgatory, or Bronaugh Wall and Courtesy Wall...or something like that. The Playground, Shady Grove, B-Wall, and Purgatory all are sunny in the morning, so it would give you an option for warming up in the shade in the morning, then crossing over to the other side of the drainage in the afternoon.
