We drove by today, and I really don't see how you can move the trail much closer to the parking lot - the hill gets really steep, and there is a road cut. I can see maybe running a trail on the road right of way for a bit, but is it really worth the effort?

Googlemaps with roadview will let you drive by too! 11 was recently added to the google map roadview. Bob's fence, and the A-frame being built at 498 and 11 are indicators.
Roadside crag, turn the perspective to see how close the trail is and what we would be dealing with to move it. It is all here.

The relocation of the start of the trail is already flagged and roughed in. I was easily able to kick in the tread alignment with my boot. This part of the project can probably be knocked out by 2-3 people in about an hour.

From the place where this new portion of the trail meets into the existing trail at the flat spot we will be rehabbing the telephone pole step area up to where the trail flattens out and then will be rehabbing the tread of the trail, installing new water bars at regular intervals up to near the base of Roadside where some new steps will be constructed. Rehab and step work will continue from there up to the 10 wall.

Our approach to planning and implementing this project is to work from the bottom up. Essentially, rehabbing the entire main trail from the parking lot up to the 10 wall.

Rehabbing the base of the slabs is a project of its own and will be run concurrently with the trail rehab, again, as long as we have enough volunteers. Right now we have 17 positive RSVP's on Facebook. We need at least 25 people to knock out both the trail rehab and slab projects.

Thank you for your support.

Bump.

We could still use some help. Would be great to get enough people to give the far end of the crag some much-needed TLC.

clif, how bad is the Zoo trail? I haven't been up there this year, could it be tackled with hand tools?

Whatever kicks starts your morning, I'm all for it. So bring a keg or a cooler. I have to sit this out - a friend is making her last trip to the Red before she leaves me for California. Sniff, sniff.

it's be hard to get a keg up there, but not bad...as always the bank coming out of the creek ravine could use rehab, a few spots of downed limbs from storms(?), and of course those two big dead snags hanging off over 'Monkey' and the climb to the right of it...and i may be out of date cause it looked like a trail went up a feeder creek from near the 'fjord' crossing..maybe coming in the opposite side from the short archway. didn't try it.

Friends in California are a very good thing, go to the Needles.

According to facebook, 107 people 'might' show up. So the turnout is bound to be phenomenal.
