a little off topic, but along the lines of indoors comps. i went up to the fri 13th comp at the co-op gym that nate and liz of rockcandy holds run near akron. i'm not really into this sorta thing normally, but had an absolute blast. the place was packed and i actually enjoyed almost everyones company. they all climb together and none of em really know me, but were all super encouraging and not in the usual annoying way. some of the best energy i've ever gotten from a bunch of gym rats. with the exception of one problem that i can remember they were all quality routes and the prizes were legit, including but not limited to moonshine and apple jack. there was a total lack of trick-ass hippies i believe as well. those guys put on a good time up there!

I'll pull the pigsteak out here, so this thread doesn't die a slow death. If climbing is about good friends, good times, and positive vibes, then who cares about the prizes? Or is getting a trinket at an indoor comp sort of like keeping a spray list?

Seems to me if Andrew thought the outcome was a bit jerked, he'd give his new pad to Julie. Otherwise, I am assuming he thought the outcome was just fine....

I don't think you know me to well piggie. Julie learned a valuable lesson on saturday. Don't trust Trick ass hippies, and take what you can see never go for the mystery prize.

yes, i did learn quite the lesson on saturday... always choose a comp with moonshine over the college scene

but yeah, super sketchy that they did that to kris and rachel. at least in my situation, you could at least mostly blame my trust/stupidity.

either way, definitely good problems for sure; i'm sore today, which was the goal...

That is so unfair! I'm sorry they hosed you like they did and they suck. Congrats on doing your best though - too bad they didn't do the same.

agreed. i think that was the issue; i went in just wanting to have fun (and i did). then, all of a sudden prizes became part of it. it's like someone buying you lunch and then taking it and eating it in front of you (or something like that).
admittedly, the chances of me keeping the pad were slim. however, i have lots of eager takers who i may have sold/given the pad to. it would have been neat to sell the pad to someone at the comp who needed it, and given the money to the access fund or something (again, not sure that would have occurred to me yesterday, but i always think it's nice when people do that).
one of my favorite "comps" ever was at ray and michelle's--no prizes involved. i think it was more the feeling of being "swindled," when i felt like i tried as hard as anyone else there...

julie, I was trying to bust Andrew's chops..no disrespect towards you for sure....

me in same scenario, I would have sued them....false advertising. who are we kidding..cool schwag (I think that is the current cool kids term for given away junk) is always the barometer of a decent comp. Either do it up right, or don't do it at all.

Hey, I know others recently who have won something illegitimately at a comp..maybe they'll donate to the cause.

it all goes back to our human nature. no matter how hard we try to deny it, competition and compensation are in our core.
