I"m not sure about the hinge strength, but a sturdy bar makes a nice anchor across the window width. Hell if the place is on fire, just plan to screw a bolt anchor into the floor if you can ahead of time. Makes for a great bondage anchor too.!

you inspired me to finally use some retired rope that I have to make a rug. I'm still in the "testing" stages, but I just made a circular rug with about 60 feet of rope. I'll probably do the same with some more. I used fishing line to get it started and then a hot glue gun to do the rest. If I can figure out how to post a picture, I'll do that.

I'm also going to do a "weave knot" with my 60m rope. I found a really helpful website for this. Check it out:

Good luck!

I made my first rope rug last week. It turned out pretty well. It wasn't exactly my retired rope, though. It was Jay's. He lent the semi-retired rope to Ditzywonder and I. I got her a Sterling Biathlon Pro for Christmas. Of course, the logical thing to do with Jay's semi-retired rope was to turn it into a retired rug.

I used the same write up FujiManiac posted...

I used that same write up to make a rope rug and it took forever. Grab a case of beer, turn on some tunes and get started. Nothing else to do all winter.

of course i would :).....See, what jay did not tell you all is that i actually asked what his plans were for this 15 year old rope before it got turned into a rug, and at that point, he failed to tell me of its future use. So i dont feel so bad, and hell no we are not untying it for him!!!

It's not 15 years old- only like 7, with nary a fuzzy or coreshot- punk.
