you'll need some draws too but maybe that could wait on that and mooch off a partner. i generally don't mind if people fall all over my draws but don't like people beating on my rope unless im beating on theirs.

You are on the right track. Definitely get a rope. Sterings are good, and from what I have heard, most ropes are good. Except for Beal ropes, that's one that I've repeatedly heard bad stuff about.
I have a sterling 10.4 and it feeds and clips just fine.
Well if you are just starting leading I would reccomend 6-8. I got by with 8 for the longest time then I upped it to 12. You can climb a LOT of stuff in the red with 12. Some of the longer routes like Boltergeist, if I remember correctly required more than 12...there are others too...but start on the shorter stuff
Of course now I do mostly trad...and well that rack is a whole 'nother story!

You can get a set of 10 draws online pretty cheap. They may not last as long as something top of the line, like spirits, but they'll get you through a season for not much dough. Then when it's time to re-up you will still have them as dirt draws to hang on some project or whatever.
yeah...what 512 said...ive been climbing on a maxim for a while now, and i have been begging his highness to hook me up with another one....come on odub!!!! i know all you gotta do is a make a call!!!
